Has anyone noticed anything “different” if you skip one day’s dosage of Paxil? Just curious.
My dosage is one 10 mg tablet with dinner. However, if I am going to a dance club later that night, and I plan to drink, then I skip my Paxil. I do this because I’ve read (and heard) you should not drink and take Paxil, because the combination can cause too much drowsiness in some people. I’ve also heard that for other people, it can nullify the effects of the Paxil. Either way, I figure it’s simply best to avoid mixing the two.
I have not noticed anything amiss on these nights. I go to the club, dance and have a few drinks, and then I go home and go to sleep without any problems. I go through the next day fine too. Then at the end of that day I go back to the dinnertime Paxil schedule. (Incidentally, in case some folks never got to read my introduction the other week, I am on Paxil for a problem relating to insomnia and related anxiety, not depression).
Anyhoo, I’m guessing the reason nothing noticeable happens is because there’s a steady level of the drug maintained in my body, my body doesn’t really “notice” if I miss one day. Or maybe it’s because I’m on such a low dosage and because my problem was not so extreme to begin with. I don’t know.
But it’s interesting to think about. Anyone else have anything to share (either positive or negative) regarding skipping or deviating from your regular schedule?
Shari

I’ve only noticed an effect if I happen to skip 2 or more days in a row. I once accidentally skipped 2 days, and by the end of the 2nd day, I started getting a migrane headache (which otherwise disappeared since on Paxil) and my mood starting getting much more agitated.
Also, related to alcohol, I can notice that the drug has much less of an impact if I’ve been drinking a lot. This seems to last even 2 days after a long night of excessive alcohol.
I completely agree with everything Mr. Zimmer said except I start feeling the effects of not taking the drug more quickly – and agitation/irritability does seem to be the first emotion that wells to the surface.
If I miss about three days of my paxil, I start getting headaches, I have no energy and the mood swings are way out of whack. I am on the paxil to help the hormone inbalance I have but now it also helps with the depression I seem to suffer from! well, anyways I am now on
30 ml a day and I still don’t eat like I was. I have lost five pounds. I hope this keeps up. I need to lose about 20 pounds.!
That is so cool that one of Paxil’s many possible side effects is having a positive outcome for you. Not wanting to eat as much as normal would be a bad side effect for me, due to my crazy fast metabolism. But since you said that you need to lose weight anyway – I’d say you can’t beat the deal you’re getting!
Help for your depression etc. AND curbing the appetite. For me it’s been a win-win situation too — the Paxil helped my insomnia/anxiety problem, as well as increasing my appetite, which for me is truly a helpful thing.
Now if only Paxil wasn’t so darn expensive….
But that’s another story! I still wonder why the price tag is so high, compared to many other drugs. I doubt it’s as simple as the supply-and-demand theory they teach in economics (a class I almost failed, incidentally! heheh). I wonder if it has to do with the process by which Paxil is made (?) If anyone knows, it would be interested to read about it.
well, I am lucky right now, i get my paxil from the doctor as samples which is helping me out. I am hoping that i don’t have to pay alot for it when I get the full time job I am going for. I will have insurance again when I and if I get the job. It will be real nice.
I usually have no problems if I miss just one day of my dosage (20mg’s per day), but if I miss two or three days, I get exhausted and dizzy. I was wondering if anyone else gets this way when missing a couple of doses?
